Birth of Ocean Napkins
The word Ocean Napkins is derived from the meaning of little wearables by the ocean.
Ocean Napkins is a sustainable swimwear brand that focuses on integrating art and sustainability in the practice of swimwear design.
Hi! I am Wei Qi, the founder of Ocean Napkins, as well as Miss World Singapore 2022. I grew up constantly worried about the flaws in my appearance and constantly had wars with myself. Being an introvert, I fought really hard with myself and devoted most of my time to art which allowed me to face my fears. Through "observational drawings", using subjects I am afraid of (such as skulls and beetles), I faced fears through long hours of close observation and encounter with the things I am afraid of. Eventually, adopting my own expressive art style where I focus on using strong colours and expressive strokes. Art really made me feel brave and happy, it became a strong part of my identity. Growing up in a family that does business, my dream has always been to be a fashion entrepreneur. My mother then influenced me greatly in my love for fashion, bringing me out shopping, styling me, and bringing me around to take pictures to boost my morale and self- confidence. Fashion in turn became my passion, it became a mode of happiness self- expression tool. My goal has always been specific and unwavering, I went on to pursue fashion design in diploma studies, to have a bachelor's degree in fashion media, and finally design management in my master's studies.
My passion eventually translated into the application of combining art with fashion into building a women's swimwear brand "Ocean Napkins", advocating "We are all a work of art". Using my dream, and my passion for fashion and art, I hope to empower women to be brave, encouraging confidence from the inside out.
Ocean Napkins is grounded in 4 core values, "Empowerment, Stewardship, Empathy, and Community". Through empowerment as the forefront brand values, I want to build a positive and compassionate community of women. Hoping to inspire people to take control of their own lives with inner confidence.
